Its Bug Season!

According to the National Pest Management Association, an unseasonably warm winter is expected to bring bugs and pests out of hibernation early this year, meaning we’re in store for prolonged mosquito season. Rather than turning to toxic bug sprays to fight against mosquito-borne viruses like West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Mom’s everywhere can count on PIC® to help protect their families from dangerous mosquito bites with two unique products that provide maximum protection with all-natural ingredients that don’t need to be applied to skin.

May 19th through May 25th

Saturday, May 19 - Mist Netting to Study and Band Birds

During this three-hour workshop, Shai Mitra, Assistant Professor of Biology at the College of Staten Island and master licensed bird bander, will demonstrate how ornithologists set up and use mist nets, a special kind of delicate net resembling an oversized volleyball net virtually invisible to birds, to capture wild birds for study and banding. In the United States, federal and state permits are required to capture wild birds with mist nets so this is a rare opportunity to see mist netting in action.

Saturday, May 19 - Lego Club at CMEE

While the rest of the family is playing in the Museum, older siblings can construct works of art out of LEGOs that will be on display at CMEE until the next club meeting. To help keep kids ages 7 to 9 engaged in CMEE (at least long enough for their younger siblings to enjoy the Museum) CMEE is launching “Lego Club”!
