Camp Flying Point


Super Success at a Very Special Camp

Children with autism on the East End had a unique opportunity last week to attend a camp alongside their typically developing siblings, peers and friends at the first-ever Camp Flying Point.
 
The camp, organized by the Flying Point Foundation for Autism, a Water Mill-based organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of children with autism through opportunity and understanding, ran last week at the Ross School lower campus in Bridgehampton and drew children from Montauk to East Quogue.

We must admit that we were scheduled for Friday as well but chickened out!  Wind/rain and foamy crafts are just not a good match!  Lol

Saturday, September 4 - Snapping Turtles: Prehistoric Monster Hunt

Of ancient lineage, the Snapping Turtle, which can grow to a length of 3 feet from head to tail and weigh as much as 70 pounds, will be the main subject of this adventure with Andy. You’ll also get to know the Painted Turtle, and perhaps meet up with the aptly named Stinkpot Turtle. Children love this walk.

In this course we will explore four basic areas of art to give students a creative foundation to apply to their own art making. Each week we will focus on a different area, including color, line, shapes and texture. Every session will begin with a discussion of the principle, and we will study examples of how other artists use each in their own work. We will then learn techniques related to these basic principles and create a project based on that theme, such as abstract watercolor painting, map making, portrait drawing and collage.
