Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit

(Happy St. Patricks Day)

top image

St. Patricks Day is one of my favorites!  Not for the religious reasons (I hope my mom doesn't read MK this week...lol) but because EVERYONE seems to enjoy it so much!

Dressing in green, eating lots of cabbage and attending the Montauk Parade?

Whats not to love? This year the 48th annual St Patrick's Day Parade will take place on March 22nd.

Did you know that there are as many as 45,000 people attend the Montauk St. Patrick Day Parade?

Did you know it is the second largest in NY State, following NYC's of course?

Did you know that it costs over $35,000 to put the parade on?

Well, consider yourself informed! We know that its a long ride, that the Montauk wind in March is brisk and the traffic on the way home may be a bit slow, but its worth it. Come out and enjoy the day!

Support the performers, our volunteers, our local organizations and you can forget about all the fabulous floats tossing endless amounts of necklaces and candy!

The Montauk Friends of Erin have been working hard all year putting together this fabulous, free community day for all to enjoy!  It would be a shame to miss it!

Hope to see you there!

Macaroni Book Review

The Leprechaun in the Basement

top image

 by Kathy Tucker

For ages 5 and older this book is a fun story ending in a good lesson about greed.
Micheal McKeaver finds himself down on his luck as he loves baseball and needs a new pair of sneakers, but his father just lost his job.  Micheal also finds himself a leprechaun in his basement along with a pot of gold.  The story twists and turns quicker than the pages.  All works out well in the end, but the story is a lesson to learn.

Keeping it Green

top image

We all know the green food coloring tricks on St. Patrick's Day, green milk, green egg salad, green oatmeal....but what about all the naturally green foods and snacks?  This year try something different and let you children taste the green!

Here are some suggestions:

green apples
pickles
green grapes
celery
green beans
snap peas
kiwi
broccoli
honey dew melon

If you must use food coloring, try a bit in some lip gloss and send your little ones to school with a big green kiss!
