Long Island Game Farm

It's All About The Animals

By Shannon Trelease, Macaroni KID Hamptons, NY September 1, 2024

It's all about the animals at the Long Island Game Farm located at 489 Chapman Boulevard in Manorville, NY; and recently they added two very popular new residents, Lily and Billy.  Our family had the pleasure of meeting them at Long Island Game Farm's first ever Family Fun Day! We were graciously hosted by Long Island Game Farm and it was a total blast!

A little back story about the Long Island Game Farm:

  • LIGF has been around since 1970
  • LIGF was originally owned and operated by Stanley and Diane Novak
  • "After Stanley’s passing in 1999, his daughter, Melinda, soon took the  helm and shifted the focus of the park exclusively toward animals,  nature, and education. Nearing 55 years as Long Island’s premier  education and attraction center for wildlife, the zoo is evolving  further to include a new nonprofit arm, the Foundation for Wildlife Sustainability, Inc., in late summer 2023."- Long Island Game Farm site
  • "Long Island Game Farm is home to many exciting, exotic, and local  species. A critical aspect of the game farm is serving as a sanctuary to  animals that have been rescued, rehabilitated, or re-homed, including  Sicilian miniature donkeys, alpacas, African Sulcatta tortoises,  peacocks, rabbits, goats, sheep, alligators, our beloved Gomez, a  sulphur-crested cockatoo, and Nala, an African Serval cat!"-Long Island Game Farm site

The new edition of the cappybaras came unexpectedly but they arrived to open arms!  Melinda Novak was kind enough to take us in for a private tour and encounter with the cappybaras.  If you would like to have your own encounter with a cappybara or wallaby (yes they have a beautiful wallaby too!) you can book a private tour! An Education Keeper will be there to supervise and provide a safe experience for both humans and animals.

The park is easy to navigate and you will see animals all along your adventure.  You can purchase feed and feed several animals in the park.  Please do not feed animals that are clearly marked as do not feed! There's also milk bottle for sale in the gift shop to feed the goats!!

Our community is very lucky to have a place like the Long Island Game Farm that's open year round for families, schools, and day trippers!
