The week before school I took my two sons to get their annual back to school hair cuts at our local barber. My youngest (8) was completely fine with the cut he received. It was of course the typical boy haircut. My oldest (13) did not have the best result. He had spent months growing his hair out to a length that he thought was pretty cool and he was feeling pretty confident. Not only were we facing the teen years but it was also his return to school after being a virtual student for the 2020/2021 school year. When the barber came out to call his name I said to the barber "please only cut along the ears and neck DO NOT TOUCH THE REST."
As I waited in the car with my daughter I noticed that my oldest was in the barbers for a long time. My youngest came out all snazzy and with a lollipop. Shortly after out came my oldest with the most uneven hair cut I have ever seen and he was in tears. He was so upset that they cut the rest of his hair he was just beside himself, pulled his hoodie over his head and sobbed in the car.
I called around to local salons to see if they could take him in for an immediate fix and luckily Special Effects in East Hampton, NY did! They were so compassionate and kind and sensitive to my sons feelings. I was so overwhelmed I cried. The owner, Elaine Hayes, fixed my sons hair. She explained every step to him and made sure he was comfortable. I am so beyond grateful to Special Effects. My son went from total teen upset to all smiles. She was able to cut his hair in such a way that he still had some long on top but it was all even and settled. I will never go anywhere else to have the kids hair done.
