Be The Match - Comes To The Hamptons Saturday June 5th

Could You Be Someone's Life Saving Match?

By Shannon Trelease - Macaroni Kid Hamptons May 4, 2021

The Hamptons, NY are known for many things...great beaches, unique sites, local celebs, great eats, but what they are really known for are strong communities.

When beloved teacher, Joanne Goerler of Jamesport became diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a blood cancer, she learned she needed a blood stem cell transplant to save her life. That's when Be The Match stepped in.  Beatriz Rodriques from Massachusetts had registered 22 years prior to Joanne's Diagnosis and BOOM! A match was made! On September 22, 2019 Beatriz donated her blood stem cells and Joanne received her transplant two days later   Small steps like registering with Be The Match can lead to some BIG MIRACLES.

On Saturday June 5th, the strong community of East Hampton where Joanne worked as an elementary teacher for 30 years, will be hosting a "SWAB FOR LIFE" drive thru  event from 12pm to 4pm at John M. Marshall Elementary School in East Hampton, NY.

Anyone 18 years to 44 years are invited to attend.  You can drive thru, register from your car on your mobile phone, have a quick and painless swab on the inside of your cheek, and POOF you're registered!

Registry members (that's YOU after you attend this event) will only be contacted if identified as a potential match for a patient in need of a transplant.
