Ten Ways For Your Kids to Honor A Veteran on Veteran's Day

November 11, 2020

On Veteran's Day we acknowledge our Veteran's and active military. There are some easy ways for you and your little (and big) macaronis to say thank you on Veteran's Day and any day.

1) Ask a Veteran about their time in the military and really listen. If your child is a bit older and you have a family member or close family friend that served - your child might conduct a little interview and write a story based on the answers. A younger child could illustrate the story.

2) Hang a flag in your yard! Don't have a flag? Make one - such a great craft project.

3) Write and send a letter to someone currently serving in the military.

4) Take flowers or a flag to a Veterans Memorial.

5) Take dinner or a special baked good to a Veteran.

6) Read and share the poem "In Flanders Field the Poppies Grow."

7) Take a moment to reflect together as a family what it means to live in America.

8) Play a recording of TAPS. Talk about what it means.

9) Make cards and drop them off at a local Veteran's Organization.

10) Resolve together to do a few of these things through the course of the year even when it is not Veteran's Day!

We didn't include attend a parade in this year's list because due to Covid restrictions there will not be many but we can still hold Veterans in our thoughts and give thanks every day for their service.
