In April Celebrate Every Kid Healthy Week

This month marks the observance of a very important event—Every Kid Healthy™ Week. Created to highlight the link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning, this annual observance provides an opportunity to celebrate the tremendous efforts schools, parents, teachers, organizations, and community supporters are making every day to keep children healthy. This year Every Kid Healthy™ Week runs from April 24-28, and there are several ways in which people around the country can get involved.  Please click for more information and ideas!

And be sure to try this month’s featured recipe, “Earth Smoothies”—an Earth Day snack, adapted from A Whisk and Two Wands, that can be enjoyed year-round!  

Ingredients (makes two smoothies)

Blue Smoothie:

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond or soy milk

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 frozen bananaa

Green Smoothie:

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond or soy milk

2 handfuls organic baby spinach

1 frozen banana

Instructions

​In a Vitamix or high-speed blender, blend Blue Smoothie ingredients until smooth. Pour into a large glass or glass measuring cup and rinse blender. Then add Green Smoothie ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. Alternate pouring the Green Smoothie and Blue Smoothie into two glasses. Add a reusable straw and enjoy!

Monthly Challenge: Spring Sweep

In honor of Earth Day, this month we challenge your family to do a neighborhood sweep. Pick a local park, street, or other special area to clean up. Be sure to wear protective gloves and bring bags for garbage—designate specific bags for recyclables.
