Here in the Hamptons, Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of the summer season - beach days and barbecues begin, traffic comes to a halt and some of us parents work harder then ever. It is important to find the time in all the hurry to teach your children to remember those who have served our country.

It is tradition to commemorate Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and war monuments, attend parades and observe a National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m.

Here are some ways you can celebrate Memorial Day in our community:

There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. following the parade. Refreshments will be served at Veteran's Memorial Hall. Join our community in recognizing the men and women who served our great country!

The Parade winds through Main Street, stopping at each War Memorial and the Sag Harbor Fire Department on Main Street honoring the fallen. 21 Gun Volley marks each stop. Join for the Memorial Day ceremony held at Marine Park. Refreshments after at the American Legion Post 388 on Bay Street. Children are welcome!

In East Hampton, East Hampton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 550 will host its annual Memorial Day service beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 30, at Main Beach in East Hampton. A parade will follow at 10 a.m. on Main Street in the village. A memorial service featuring guest speakers will follow on the Village Green.

In Bridgehampton, the Bridgehampton Fire Department's annual Memorial Day observance will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30th. It will be held at the War Monument at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Ocean Road. The service will feature a reading of the Gettysburg Address and a performance by the Bridgehampton High School Band. Refreshments will follow at the Bridghampton Firehouse.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend with your little macaronis.
